First glimpses of upcoming Star Wars films have become worldwide events over the past decades. The medium trailers are viewed on has changed though. Stars Wars trailers have always been a phenomenon by itself. Unlike other famous franchises, Star Wars was born on the big screen and not adapted from any other material. Think about it. Every other top billion-dollar live-action franchise has been adapted from a source ( The Fast & The Furious is a notable exception, see bottom for franchises and their source material). It would dampen fan response to Rogue One on social media potentially cutting into box office returns.
